Panasonic breadmaker a winner Sep 03, 2010 Great breadmaker for it's value. Have a more expensive model that I use (gave the Panasonic to my daughter who is off to college) and like hers better. Makes pizza dough in a swift 40 minutes.
MAKES A TASTY, TASTY WHEAT LOAF Sep 03, 2010 Long story short, one of my favorite Breadman Ultimate went out and I spent three hours researching reviews on bread machines to replace it. (We have five children, so I use four bread machines at one time on baking day.) I chose this machine because of the postive reviews by those that baked with wheat. I have had this machine for three months now and have been very pleased with it. It is difficult to find a bread machine that will kick up an excellent whole wheat (particulary red, hard wheat) but this one does great. We grind out own wheat (for those new to this - it's worth every penny to buy your own wheat and get a decent grinder...bread takes SOOO much better!). I like how this has handled other types of bread as well. I like how the machine lets it sit and rest, while it brings the water temp. to where it needs to be. (This takes the guess work out and makes sure your yeast is happy:) Little drawbacks: The controls are a little funky, you add your yeast in a little holding cup at the top of the machine, you are asked to add dry first - then wet, and you can't peak through a window at the bread while it's baking. (Though I lift the lid from time to time. No harm done.) It's a little different than most machines...but not rocket science. I noticed how many reviews (from all brands) mention difficulty with "non stick" finishes and bread eventually sticking in pan. YOU DO NOT NEED to use soap, scrubbers or chemicals when cleaning these pans. Think of them as a cast iron skillet - it's a rinse with water kind of thing. When my pan cools, I add some warm water (no soap) and let it soak for an hour or so...then rinse with a good spray of water...being careful not to wet the ball bearing or anything on the underside, then air dry. It's that simple. I've had machines of all brands for 10 years and have never had a pan go wrong. Oh, and if you don't think you're ready for whole wheat, just add how ever much cheap white flour you'd like. As long as the flour adds up to the amount called for...you're fine. I think the most important step is checking the bread when it's been kneading for five minutes...and adding a tablespoon of water or flour...to make a tight, non-sticky little ball of dough. Happy baking!
Wonderful Bread! Sep 01, 2010 Very nice unit. Seems to be very solid and very quiet. This is the second breadmaker we've owned and it is far superior to the first which was about 20 years ago. I gave that one away to the church for their rummage sale. The sandwich loaf is just the right size for my wife and myself and if there's any that goes stale after a few days, my chickens love it!
Panasonic SD-YD250 Automatic Bread Maker Aug 30, 2010 Fast replacement and great service for this product. Makes a great loaf of bread and am able to use my old recipe.
Best Bread Machine Ever! Aug 28, 2010 I have owned as many as 5 bread machines prior to purchasing the Panasonic SDWD250, this is the easiest and best machine I have ever used, and the bread comes out fantastic! My first bread machine also was a Panasonic Mod. SD BT6D over 30 years ago, I went through 3 bread pans and could not purchase parts for it any more, so I went to several other brands some over $200.00 and they were terrible machines could not even get the bread out of the bread pan do to the stupid double mixing paddles, both of the same manufacturer, I now use them for making dough only! I am extremely pleased with my Panasonic SDWD 250, I do not believe there is a better bread machine that will even come close to this one.
